My poor boy!

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

We had Liam's baby dedication on Sunday and in true Liam fashion, he injured himself beforehand. My poor baby has little body awareness. He was running after Rori and crashed into our big rolltop desk. So....this is what he looked like for his baby dedication.

I still think he's pretty adorable!

I do want to say something about the dedication. The pastor reminded us that our most important evangelizing must be to our children. I don't want to let my Savior down, I don't want to be lazy. I don't want to just assume that they will learn about Jesus from their Sunday School teacher or their Awana leader. It needs to start with me (and Bill--but he's not writing this ;) ). I have seen people who love the Lord and do great things for Him, but yet seem to neglect spiritually leading their children. I can see that sometimes that would be easier, but I want to make sure that doesn't happen to us!

Appointments and Fashionistas

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Yesterday I went to the OB for a doctor's appointment. It was supposed to be the standard check up now that the bleeding has stopped. However, when I got there they couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler. My heart dropped into my stomach. The nurse told me they would do an ultrasound to find it. So she brought me into the ultrasound room and told me to undress. I thought I might throw up. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. And then I had to go to the bathroom, so I quickly got dressed and went to the bathroom. Then I undressed and waited some more. My shirt was starting to get damp from sweating because I was so nervous. It was kind of gross. I was starting to stick to the paper. Finally, after 45 minutes of waiting half naked and sweaty, the doctor came in. Then, he couldn't get the ultrasound machine to work, because it was a new one and he didn't know how to use it. Eventually he ended up doing the on the tummy ultrasound and we saw our little munchkin doing flips and flops--which is probably why the nurse couldn't catch it with the doppler. The baby was so active that the doctor couldn't even get the heartrate. I'm guessing that doesn't bode well for me when it comes out of the womb...Anyway, I'm glad that I got highlights in my hair last weekend, because otherwise I'm pretty sure my hair would be streaked with grey from my stressful appointment. I think when things like that happen, that patiend should be pushed to the beginning of the line, so they don't sit there worrying for 45 minutes! Good grief.

On a completely different note, I wanted to show you what you have been missing if you haven't seen what fashion week had for spring style.

Liam picked out his clothes--including shoes and socks and refused to wear pants all day. But at least he took a three hour nap dressed like that!
And isn't Rori just rocking her new lavendar fur coat?!

Dinner at Costco

Monday, March 23, 2009

I met up with Bill and the kids at Costco after work for dinner. We needed lots of things and we often try to meet there to do our shopping so that we can have a cheap and easy dinner as a family. Before we had kids, Bill and I would joke that the only place we were going to be able to afford to take our kids to eat would be Costco, because Bill and I were able to eat there for $3! We each would get the $1.50 hotdog/drink combo. What a steal! Somehow our 3 year old and almost 2 year old managed to increase the cost by $7 today! Seriously! Bill and I still each got our hotdogs, we got Liam a hotdog, and Rori got a $2 slice of pizza. Liam ate all of his hotdog and part of Bill's, so Bill needed a piece of pizza since he was still hungry. Then, Rori noticed that her beloved chocolate dipped ice cream bars were back (they had been removed from the "menu" several months ago) so she wanted one of those. They are $1.50 and she and Liam ate the whole thing. So that brought our total to $10 at the Costco food court. So much for our dreams of feeding our family for under $5 (we had assumed they'd be splitting a hotdog for a while). What are we going to do when they're teenagers?! I love my little ziggy piggies--they sure can eat!

Spring is here, sort of!

Again, sorry I haven't updated. I think I am finally on the upswing and will start posting regularly again. I've been so tired and you know, it's so much effort to post sometimes. I mean, I have to get out the computer, turn it on, plug in the camera, upload the photos, type, and then post. Have I made it sound as exhausting as I hoped?

I have good news, for myself anyway. Last weekend I did our taxes and barring any unforeseen expenses, I'm, I mean, we are getting a new camera! I can't wait! Other good news, which I probably should have said first, is that the hematoma in my uterus has resolved itself and I haven't had any spotting in about a week. So now I can more comfortable say, "when we have this baby," instead of "IF we have this baby." It's such a relief. At my last doctor's appointment I needed to bring the kids again. After they put me in the room, I had to undress halfway because I was getting an ultrasound again. I had to wait for 1 HOUR with two small children. I felt like I spent the whole time saying, "don't touch that" about the expensive doctor equipment. By the end I was ready to let them play video games with the ultrasound machine since they kept us waiting, me half naked, for so long.

Anyway, finally it has been warm outside. We have had so much fun playing outside. It has been so wonderful! In typical Jaime fashion, I do have one complaint about the beautiful weather. This is what happens when we have to go inside EVERY TIME

Why a Sense of Smell is So Important

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Since I have been afflicted with the "death plague" I have lost my senses of taste and smell. I thought taste would be the worst one to lose. My favorite foods look delicious, but don't taste like anything. It would really be a good time for me to indulge in some brussel sprouts or some other vegetable that I have yet to appreciate. Anyway, yesterday I discovered that the sense of smell is much more important than the sense of taste (and yes, I know that taste and smell are linked, blah blah blah). Anywhoo, Liam loves to play in the sink and "do dishes" and yesterday morning he was very excited to do that first thing. I let him play for a while and then he seemed to be getting sleepy because he is starting to get the "plague" as well. I took him downstairs to watch Mickey Mouse for a bit to just sit and be quiet. I rocked him on my lap and it was very sweet. Then he got his second burst of energy. We went upstairs to play and I noticed that my shirt was damp. I patted it to see if it was my imagination. It was damp. I wasn't terribly surprised because Liam usually gets his clothes wet when he does the dishes and yesterday was no exception, so I figured it just got on me from rocking him.
While he and Rori were playing, I started to empty the dishwasher. I had only done a couple plates and was working on the silverware when I saw Liam run by. The back of his pajamas had a big, dark, wet circle on them... I was horrified as I realized what had gotten on my shirt, and ultimately my hands when I patted my shirt. I brought Liam upstairs and cleaned him up, changed, washed my hands, and reloaded the dishwasher to rewash our now possibly poopy dishes. Didn't smell a thing the whole time! Rori, on the other hand, let me know how stinky it all was. Who would have thought I'd be upset that I couldn't smell a poopy blowout diaper?! Normally I would be appreciative, but thinking of all the things I could have contaminated is just gross. Ah, the things we take for granted.

Why I've been MIA

Monday, March 9, 2009

Do you remember on the Princess Bride where Wesley is "mostly dead"--which is better than all-dead? I have been mostly dead for the last five days with "the plague." It started on Wednesday and Bill actually had to stay home with the kids on Thursday while I spent the day in bed. I have a horrible cough which has kept me up some nights until 4:00 in the morning where, thank God for cable, I've gotten to watch Clueless and other 90's movies. My throat has been so sore that swallowing just hasn't been worth it. My poor hubby also has the death plague, but at least he can take drugs and cough medicine for it since he's not pregnant. Anyway, I think I am finally on the mend (I say this after I had to put a job applicant on hold at work while I coughed for 3 minutes straight). Thus, I be better about updating my blog--maybe even tonight or tomorrow just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not all-dead :)

Cupcakes and Bouncy Seats

Sunday, March 1, 2009

I have been MIA for several days--I apologize. I had some bad bleeding on Thursday, again, and while I am trying to be brave and trust the Lord, I must admit, it's much easier said than done. I spent Thursday moping and crying and trying to let go of my desire for control. I am really trying to accept the Lord's will in all this, but it is so difficult. To top that all off, I feel yucky, pretty much all day, which doesn't leave me feeling like blogging. Fortunately, two of my greatest sources of joy have been extra adorable lately.

Last Monday, Papa had to stay home with the kids because Baba Casey has pinkeye and we thought it best to quarantine her. When we had gone to Anna's the previous weekend, she had given Rori a Valentine of cake mix and frosting and sprinkles. Rori had been dying to make them, so she and Papa made them as a surprise for me when I got home from work. They were super tasty, and beautiful. The box showed cupcakes and a square piece of cake on it, so Rori insisted that she and Papa make round cupcakes and square ones too. Fortunately Papa was smart and made a 9x9 pan of cake with the mix that they could cut into square cupcakes.

I'm so glad that Rori loves to bake, because it is something I truly enjoy. I don't think it's technically a love language, but if it was, it would be mine :) If she keeps this up, I may end up 500 pounds!

We haven't told the kids about the baby yet, because I want to wait to make sure that everything is ok and ideally wait until we know what we're having. But, the kids are already practicing having a baby around. Bill had brought out our bouncy seat from storage to give to Auntie Jenna to use for her baby that is on her way. Rori and Liam were like moths to a flame with the seat--I'm pretty sure they exceed the weight limit, but it was sweet watching them bounce each other. Hopefully they'll be as sweet to a new baby!
